Research Specialist at the Department of Biology, SDU
The Department of Biology at the University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a permanent Research Specialist position (A-TAP) from June 1st 2025.
The position is part of the bat echolocation lab at SDU and will center on investigating how bats actively control their emitted call and received echo to optimize perception. The position focus’ on work utilizing large-scale multi-microphone arrays and high-speed stereo video systems both in our state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and in the field.It involves a large of degree machine learning for methods development, relating high-resolution echolocation beam shape reconstruction to high-speed 3D reconstruction of bat morphology.
The chosen candidate will join an innovative expanding bat echolocation lab and be a part of the Sound Communication and Behaviour group at SDU. The candidate will benefit from a vibrant social and scientific environment with excellence within bioacoustic research, over a wide range of subjects, from sound production mechanisms to hearing development and anthropogenic noise.
Qualifications of the applicant
Experience in biology or engineering and a background in acoustics, bioacoustics or sensory biology is required and a PhD degree or similar is an advantage.Prior experience with machine learning, acoustic analysis, image analysis, stereo video 3D reconstruction, signal processing and general software programming is required.
Proven record of conducting and publishing independent scientific research.
Full proficiency in spoken and written English.
